Dettol Baby Blanket Donation

As a new first time mummy to Joey we've been very lucky and fortunate to have been given some lovely gifts since he was born. Generally most of the things Joey has been gifted are clothes and toys but somehow he has acquired quite a collection of baby blankets. He has about 5 or 6 but only uses 3. So what's the point in keeping these blankets that he probably won't use? Sure I could probably take to a local charity shop but there are no guarantees that they will be bought so this is where the Dettol Baby Blanket Donation comes in...

Dettol have created a wonderful campaign which makes use of all those unwanted blankets you might have. They have teamed up with Sparks who are a children's medical research charity here in the UK. Their campaign is called 'keep the memories, not the bacteria'...why you might ask??? Well, the boffins over at Dettol have run scientific tests to find out the amount of bacteria which lives on a babies blanket...even after being washed on a 40 degree cycle. The blankets used in the initial testing were kindly donated by some volunteer mums. The tests performed by Dettol found that 'a third of the washed blankets harboured coliforms – a group of bacteria linked to faeces.' Ewwww I had no idea that so much bacteria could be found on Joey's blanket! But Dettol have come to the rescue with their Anti-bacterial laundry cleanser which amazingly kills 99.9% of bacteria even on a 30 degree low temperature wash...how good is that! But this campaign isn't just about raising the awareness of bacteria but also to make people aware of the amount of babies that are being born around the world who are born into poverty and who's parents can't even afford basic essentials such as a baby blanket. Something that we all take for granted, one helpless bambino is going without. So that's why I've decided to get involved.

As you can see from the above video, Rachel Stevens is ambassador for the campaign, this is what she had to say "The Dettol Baby Blanket Donation really resonated with me as a mum. I remember bringing my girls home for the first time in theirs and what a special time that was. That's the reason why I'm supporting the campaign, asking mums to donate blankets to those in need so that those babies don't miss out."
