Joey's Sleep update

About a month ago I posted about how Joey's sleep was something of a nightmare since Christmas, read here. Well it's been a month and things are looking great!

So the good news is that Joey is pretty much sleeping through through the night in his own bed. We've only had a few nights where he's woken up through the night but we think it could have been a bit of teething. He's been really great and it's such a relief for mummy and daddy to finally get our bed back...Chris is more thrilled...I just want to sleep. The bad news (sort of) is that it takes atleast half an hour to get him to sleep. He won't just go to sleep on his own straight away, he stands up in his cot and tries to empty the draws at the end of his cot. So I stay in his room with him until he falls asleep. When he stands up in his cot I just lay him back down without saying anything, after a few times he gets tired and falls asleep.
It is a bit tricky to exit his room without him waking, he has floorboards in his room and the odd one creaks. So it most likely takes me about 5 attempts to leave his room. Most mornings Joey wakes up by moaning but last week he was still asleep at 8am, didn't even stir when I opened the blinds and put his bottle next to him. Also with the lighter nights it means that we put him to bed a little later. As long as we stick to our routine I'm hoping he'll manage to get himself to sleep at some point.

It's only been a month but I'm happy with the progress we've made so far. Have you had a similar experience with your toddler? I'd love to hear from you.

What Joey wore #7

Welcome to another What Joey wore Style post on this Good Friday. Here's what Joey wore this week...

Outfit 1
The weather was lovely and sunny on Sunday so we went to an open air carboot sale.
Top: H&M | Leggings: Fred & Noah
Even though it was sunny, I wasn't exactly tshirt weather but warm enough for a jumper. Joey has worn this jumper a few times already, I love the colours in it and reminded me of spring and Easter. I knew these Fred & Noah beetle leggings would go perfectly, I love that shade of blue.

Outfit 2
Just a casual day at home, I went for a kind of monochrome theme.
Top: H&M | Leggings: Zara

Outfit 3
It's Good Friday and what better time for Joey to wear his new bunny goodies.
Top: Cribstar | Leggings: Baby Brain Apparel
I'd been on the lookout for a few weeks to find some Eastery clothes for Joey and these were very last minute purchases. I came across the bunny leggings first from Baby Brain Apparel, I was looking for bunny leggings that weren't white and I'm so glad I came across these. The Happy Bunny top is great because it's monochrome and can be worn at anytime not just at Easter, like the leggings. Cribstar and Baby Brain Apparel were amazing at getting the items to us before the Easter weekend.

As always we're linking up with This Mama Life & Clearly Bex for Weekend Tot Style. Also linking up with Make, Do and Push for Funky Kid Friday.

Happy Easter

Joey's Easter Hamper

Easter weekend officially starts tomorrow so what better time to show you the Easter hamper I've put together for Joey. We first did a Christmas hamper for Joey last year and thought it would be nice to do one for Easter aswell.

The basket is the same one we used for his Christmas hamper and we've since been using it to store Joey's bottles in. The basket is part of a set of 3 from B&M, they were £9.99 and come in really handy for storage. The green shredded tissue paper is from The Range and was only 50p, the little chicks and eggs were from a poundshop.
We went to a carboot sale last weekend and I picked up this bunny for £1. It was brand new and it is so soft.

I'd been on a hunt of my own to try and find Easter books for Joey at several shops in our town centre. I picked this up from Tesco for £3. Joey absolutely loves watching Peppa Pig.

Joey loves the two other "That's Not My" touchy feely books in his collection so I was desperate to get an easter one for him. I couldn't find it any of our supermarkets but managed to get it from an independent book shop for £6.99. You can buy them a lot cheaper on the likes of Amazon but we've read this a few times already and he loves it.

This was a last minute purchase this week, I'd wanted to get Joey some easter related clothes or colours but not found anything. So when I saw this top from Cribstar I loved it, it can be worn anytime and Joey is nearly always a happy bunny.
Another last minute Easter purchase. I'd been on the lookout for some bunny leggings but nearly everything I could find was white and I didn't think that would be a great idea. These are great and will look great with Joey's Happy Bunny top.

Last week we went shopping in Matalan with hubby to find him some jeans. At the checkout they had a selection of Easter stuff and these cookie cutters were among them, they were £3. I've been on the lookout for cookie cutters to use as sandwich cutters for Joey's lunches. We've used these quite a lot and they are so cute.

Chocolate Eggs
I picked up some mini chocolate eggs and Cadbury's creme eggs to hide in the tissue paper of his basket. Aldi is great for picking up cheap little chocolate bits.

That's everything in Joey's Easter hamper, I'm hoping to pick up some crafts stuff tomorrow from Mothercare/ ELC which I would have liked to have added. I'm sure as Joey gets older I'll be able to add more crafts goodies to his hampers.

What have you got planned for Easter with the kids?

Happy Easter

The MADs Blog Awards 2016. I've been nominated!

Yesterday was just a normal day, a day at home with Joey and doing a few jobs. All very normal until I checked my twitter feed and found out that I am one of the nominees for MADs Blog Awards Blog of the Year 2016. The blog will be 2 years old in September, this is the first time my blog has been recognised and I am so so excited!

If your not familiar with the MADs BLOG Awards The Mum and Dad (MAD) Blog Awards they are the biggest and most exciting awards for parent blogs in the UK. The Life & Loves of Lolly has been nominated in the Blog of the Year category, we're up against so many amazing blogs that I'm not expecting to get very far when being so new to the blogging world.

I started the blog as just a little hobby after I got made redundant in 2014, 3 months into my maternity leave. I've always loved writing and expressing my thoughts and opinions. I've documented a lot of Joey's life on here and talked about sensitive issues that I hope can help people. I get so excited about my blog and all the love it receives. I'm so honoured to work with some great brands which is just one of the many amazing things my blog has allowed me to do. As a new blogger I'm still making mistakes but that's all part of the process and allows me to improve.

Aldi Easter Goodies

With Easter less than a week away, I thought I'd share with you some amazing chocolate goodies that the lovely people at Aldi have sent to me to review.

Moser Roth Banoffee Pie Luxury chocolate egg* - £2.99
Banoffee Pie is one of my favourite deserts so when I saw this luxury chocolate egg from Moser Roth, I was so excited to try it. The majority of the egg is milk chocolate apart from the front which is decorated with pieces of dried banana and toffee. I've never tried a chocolate egg like this before, it was very nice however the toffee was very chewy.

Moser Roth Pink Delight Luxury Chocolate Egg* - £2.99
Another luxury egg from Moser Roth, this time with just a drizzle design on the front of the egg. As far as I could tell the drizzle doesn't have a taste to it, how amazing if it tasted of like strawberry or raspberry.

Dairyfine White chocolate Easter egg with buttons* - 79p
A white chocolate egg with white chocolate buttons inside, only for 79p. What a bargain! Also great that it's white chocolate so my toddler wont get chocolate stains on every piece of clothing this Easter.

Choceur milk chocolate bunny* - 99p
Very similar to the Lindt chocolate bunny that costs quite a lot more than Aldis version. Beautifully wrapped and I doubt I could taste the difference between this and it's more expensive competitor.

Chocolate & Toffee Fudge Hot cross Buns - 99p
I don't like traditional hotel cross buns with the sultanas in so when I'd seen these advertised in the Aldi easter brochure I knew I had to try them. They are so good!

Aldi have such a great selection of Easter goodies, they taste amazing and great for anyone on a budget or large families to buy for.  In my opinion I don't see the point in paying extortionate prices for branded easter chocolate when it's probably produced in the same way as it's cheaper versions. For £10 in Aldi you can buy a good variety of different Easter goodies.

Have you tried any of Aldi's Easter goodies? What are your favourites?

Disclaimer*: The above products were sent to me in order to review for the purpose of this blog. All thoughts and opinions are 100% my own

Getting my toddler to sleep

When Joey was a baby he was generally a good sleeper, once he'd moved into his own room just after he was 6 months he was still a good sleeper. Recently however, Joey has been a nightmare sleeping in his own room but I think we've finally cracked it!
So usually from when Joey was a baby his bedtime routine would involve him falling asleep in mummy and daddy's bed, once asleep I'd carry him into his room and put him in his cot. He's always been fine with this and slept through most of the time. But during Christmas, Joey became a nightmare at getting to sleep and even when he did finally fall asleep once I'd try and move him into his room he'd either wake up straight away and scream or he'd only sleep for a few hours. Obviously when your child wakes up screaming in the early hours alls you want to do is get them back to sleep straightaway as your still half asleep yourself. He would never settle back down in his own bed so he'd end up in our bed. This happened every single night, throughout Christmas and it's only been about 2 weeks since we decided enough is enough and something had to change.

So about 2 weeks ago we decided that we were going to put Joey in his cot straight away when it was bedtime. We weren't under any circumstances going to let him in our bed. The first couple of nights were pretty hard, he would stand up in his cot screaming everytime I tried to leave the room. But I found that if I stayed in his room with him, if he stood up I'd just put him back down and not say anything to him. After a few times he gets tired and falls asleep and he's only woke up about once in the night.

Bedtime is so much better now, I wish I had put my foot down ages ago and put him in his own room straight away. I know there are probably a few parents shaking their head reading this and probably thinking what a stupid mummy I am to encourage my child to sleep in his parents bed. I agree, and my hubby will agree that I have been stupid. I thought I was doing what was best but we needed our bed back. To be honest, I think since Joey had started nursery last September that's when we started having issues with him sleeping and more so when he's picked up colds and sickness bugs. But I'm glad he's now sleeping in his own room now.

I'd love to hear from anyone who's had similar issues with getting their toddlers to sleep in their own rooms? What did you do to change things?

Thanks for reading

Weekend Tot Style #6

Welcome to another Weekend Tot Style post! Well the weather has slightly improved since last week's post, it actually feels like spring now with the sunny weather we've been having.

Outfit 1
Having not ordered anything from Zara since before Christmas, I thought it was time to make a start on Joey's Spring/Summer wardrobe so I ordered a few things during the week including this lovely lion jumper.
Top & leggings: Zara | Slippers: Boots Mini Club
The Zara lion jumper was £8.99, it's very light and perfect for the spring weather that we're having at the moment. I paired them with a pair of Zara leggings that were bought last year.

Outfit 2
The weather wasn't looking too sunny when I got him dressed so I went for a less spring like outfit.
Top: Cribstar | Leggings: Zara
Joey's top was bought from Cribstar and I even have a matching one! Because the top is black I wanted to pair it with some leggings that had a pattern and not just plain. These mountain leggings from Zara go really well I think.

Latest purchases...
Zara - Zara is one of my favourite stores to buy Joey's clothes from. I hadn't bought anything though since way before Christmas so I've had my eye on a few bits for ages. The tshirt is really fun and has animals wearing funny things, this will be great in the summer. The XO leggings had been in my basket for ages, I got them in a size 18 - 24months and they are actually really big for him at the moment compared to other leggings he has from Zara in the same size.
Tesco - I don't shop at Tesco that much but when I nipped in the other day I found these leggings and thought how well they would go with his new Zara lion jumper. These were £6 and came as a 2 pack.

As always linking up with This Mama Life & Clearly Bex for Weekend Tot Style but this week we're also linking up with Hannah from Make, Do and Push for Funky Kid Friday.

Easter Netflix picks

Easter is upon us so what better way to spend time with the family by watching Netflix and eating lots of chocolate!
Enjoy a different kind of binge this Easter with these top food related titles.

Passion, Chocolate and Johnny Depp... what more could you want?

When chef Carl Casper's plans for opening a restaurant in LA fails, he returns home to Miami and debuts a food truck instead. I love food and the food in this film looks amazing!

My favourites at the moment...
Starring the gorgeous GĂ©rard Butler who is a disgraced secret service agents who comes to the rescue when Korean terrorists descend on the white house and take the president hostage. The sequel, London has Fallen is in cinemas now and I really want to go and see it! I absolutely loved Olympus has Fallen and I reckon the new installment will be even better.

This is the movie of my childhood, I lived and breathed anything girl power when I was growing up. I can't believe this movie hasn't been on Netflix sooner but this is a great but cheesy/cringey film for any spice girls fan.

I started watching Breaking Bad ages ago but I started watching something else and  didn't get back into it but I've resumed watching Season 2. If you haven't watched Breaking Bad then it's basically about a college professor called Walt who gets diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. He needs to make money quick for his family and his cancer treatment, so turns to an old student of his to start a drug cooking business. I'm nearly at the end of season 2 and you can't help but binge watch when you think that it's game over for Walt.

What have you been enjoying on Netflix at the moment?

Disclaimer: As part of the Netflix Stream Team I have been given 12 months subscription and an Apple TV in return for writing regular posts about how I use Netflix. All thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.
