First BBQ of the summer with #AldiSocialBBQ

Monday 30th May marks the start of National BBQ Week so what better way to mark the occasion AND a bank holiday by having our first BBQ of 2016. We were invited to take part in Aldi's Social BBQ event and to share our BBQ prep/meals across our social media.
If you're a BBQ beginner then here are some handy tips to get you going:
  • If using an old BBQ make sure it's in working order a few days before hand.
  • double check that you have everything you need; charqoal, lighter, metal food tong and spatula, plenty of plates.
  • If cooking steak take out the fridge before time and allow to get to room temperature to stop the meat from tightening so much once on the grill.

When we've done barbecues before we have been quite lazy and just bought frozen food to stick on the BBQ. But I know that Aldi have a wide range of fresh meat choices at fab prices so i was beyond excited to do our BBQ food shop.
- Chicken Thighs & Legs
- Gourmet Dogs
- Wagyu Burgers
- Mixed Peppers
- Caesar Salad Kit
- Smokey Cheddar Slices
- British Barbeque Rub
- Specially Selected Coleslaw
- Potato Salad
- Hot Dog Barbeque Sauce
- Echo Falls Summer Berries Wine

BBQ Time
I started off by using the British Barbeque seasoning to rub into the chicken thighs and legs, once on the barbeque the smell was amazing!

Also finished off some chiken, Chorizo & pepper kebabs that I'd started in the oven to give them that smoky taste.
It was then time to grill the Wagyu burgers, before putting them on the grill i seasoned with salt, pepper and a brush of oil.
Instead of normal burger buns we went for Brioche buns with some lettuce, tomato, cheese and sauce to finish the burger off. This was the first time I'd ever had Wagyu burgers and they were amazing, really meaty and juicy.
Next, we threw the goumet dogs on the grill this is another new product I'd not had before and also come in a mini version. These were really tasty a cross between a normal sausage and a savloy.

We really enjoyed our BBQ, all of the food was great and will definitely be buying again. Also can't wait for our next BBQ to try more food ideas.

What's your favourite food to cook on the barbeque?

* Collaborative Post: I have not been paid by Aldi to take part, however I was given £20 in Aldi Vouchers.

Weekly Meal Ideas #1

I thought I would share with you all our meals from during the week for some meal inspiration.

Monday - Seabass Fillets & Chinese Style Rice
The seabass fillets were bought from Aldi and came with a Rocket and pesto butter. I wanted to have cous cous with it, but didnt have any in so had Uncle Ben's Chinese style rice instead.

Tuesday - Chicken Caesar Salad & Pasta
I didnt fancy a big meal after having had a McDonald's for lunch so i made a chicken Caesar Salad. I use the Mediterranean chicken breast slices, salad and Caesar dressing all from Aldi. Croutons are from Asda. I made Joey some pasta with Tomato & Mascapone sauce and their was plenty left so I had some.

Wednesday - Garlic Chicken Kiev, Sweet Potato mash & peas
Shop bought garlic kievs from Aldi, usually we would have chips with this meal but decided to have sweet potato mash to make it a bit moere healthier.

Thursday - Spaghetti Bolognese
Spag Bol is a favourite in our house, we always enjoy it and its Joeys fave too. I added a tiny bit of courgetti with the pasta, check out my recipe here.

Friday - Medium Chicken Curry & Chicken Savoury Rice
Iceland have a promotion at the moment on Uncle Bens products; buy 3 products and get a free wok. So I went for the Medium curry chucked in some chicken strips and had with Chicken savoury rice, duck spring rolls from Asda & prawn crackers from Aldi. I hadn't used Uncle Ben's products for years but we really enjoyed our meal.

So that's our meals for the week. I hope you find this post useful.

What Joey Wore #16

Welcome to another What Joey Wore Style post. The weather has really been off and on over the past week so we only have one outfit to show you which is a bit of a repeat from last week but I love it.
Shirt: George at Asda | Vest, Shorts & Sandals: H&M
Monday had the best weather of the week, it was so warm. He wore the shorts part of this set last week so I thought I would put him in the set. I really love the giraffe print and the overall blue colour, it looks and feels cool. The denim shirt was part of a set I'd got last summer but he only wore it once so I kept hold of it, it goes so well with the outfit and the leather sandals finish the outfit perfectly.
As always we're linking up with This Mama Life & Clearly Bex for Weekend Tot Style. Also linking up with Made do and Push for Funky Kid Friday. Looking forward to seeing everyone's link ups.

Another sleep update

You may remember a few months ago I wrote a post about how over Christmas Joey was having problems sleeping in his own bed, you can read it here. We took a stand and really focused on making bedtime better for him so that he would sleep all the way through in his own bed.
After a few weeks we saw some improvement, you can read that post here. Everything seemed to be going so well, we had the odd waking up in the night but nothing major. He was sick about a month ago in his bed and then had to jump in with us but that wasn't really an issue. It seems we have taken a few steps backwards recently, their was a night  when he woke up at 2am, wouldn't settle in his room and didn't want to be in our bed so I had to take him downstairs. Over the past week or so he's been waking up at around 5am, which for me is just a disgusting time to wake up. I did suspect around this time that he may have been teething so maybe that's the reason for his sleeping problems as of late.

This week however, he's been really good and it seems we've turned a corner. He's been falling asleep on the sofa, I carry him up to his room and he doesn't wake until 7am. For instance last night he fell asleep just after 6pm, he woke up at about midnight, went back to sleep and then woke up at 7.20am. So maybe things are starting to get back to normal. Joey has been going to bed really well recently that I completely forgot how good it felt to actually relax in the front room infront of the telly without him.

Has your toddler been through the same thing?

In The Club: Series 2

A few weeks ago In the Club returned to our screens on BBC for its second series. Having been a big fan of its first series, I couldn't wait for it to return. The third episode was last night and only another three left in the current series.

If you haven't watched In the Club before then let me give you a brief rundown. The BBC drama follows the lives of six pregnant women (and their partners) who go to the same antenatal classes at the beginning of the first series. They all become friends and important parts of each others life. It features a fantastic cast with the likes Will Mellor, Jill Halfpenny, Hermione Norris and Katherine Parkinson to name a few. The second series picks up with the same characters, with a few new faces and we see how life has changed now that their babies are around 12 months old. Each family are having to deal with their own problems with the support of everyone in the group.

For anyone not watching In the Club at the moment then I'll try not to spoil anything but after I watched the first episode of this new series I was really miffed that 2 of the characters were pregnant again, so soon after having their youngest. I don't know why it bothered me, I suppose it's a fairly common thing to happen so they are bound to address it.  I really enjoy watching how each family goes through life, I'm excited to see what happens with Rowana getting jiggy with her ex hubby. Also, if you have been watching it i am convinced that the woman who "found" the newborn baby in the hospital was the one who actually gave birth to it, anybody else thinking the same?

In the Club is on tonight at 9pm on BBC1. Have you been watching the second series of In the Club? What do you think so far?

Toddler Boy Summer Clothing Haul

The weather has been so great recently that Joey ran out of summery outfits to wear. So we have a toddler Boy Summer clothing haul to share with you all.
The majority of the stuff is from H&M and Matalan, with the odd Zara and Fred & Noah. Everything apart from Zara and Fred & Noah was bought instore.

Please let me know what you think about the video. I'm still new to vlogging so I'm still learning.

Thanks for watching

What Joey Wore #15

Welcome to another What Joey Wore post. We only have one outfit to share with you this week. The weather was lovely last week wasn't it?

Outfit 1
Top, Shorts & Sandals: H&M
This entire outfit was bought last Friday and then I put him in these at lunchtime as it had got quite warm. I'd seen the shorts online and loved the pattern so when I saw them in store I had to get them, you can also get the matching vest top. I thought the Wild Boy vest top goes really well with the shorts. The sandals are really big for Joey but how cute are they.

Aldi & Asda Shopping Haul

Hello lovelies, I thought I would share something new with you. I have been inspired by some of the food shop hauls I've seen on YouTube so I decided to do my own.
We do our big weekly shop at Aldi, have done for about 2 years now after changing from Asda. Out of all the big chain supermarkets Asda was always the cheapest and most convenient for us but then we made the big switch to Aldi just after Joey was born. I would usually go into Asda and spend about £60 on a load of crap and still have to make trips during the week. Now, at Aldi we spend about £40- £50 a week and only have to pop back for any fresh stuff like bread, fruit and veg. So we have saved money by shopping at Aldi and also allowed us to cook more meals. I do still have to nip into Asda for the things I can't get in Aldi like branded stuff.

I hope you enjoy this kind of post. As always I'd love your feedback.

What Joey Wore #14

Hello lovelies, welcome to another What Joey Wore Style post. Hasn't the weather been lovely over the past week!

Outfit 1
Top & Shorts: H&M | Moccs: Ali Express
Last weekend was probably the hottest weekend of the year so far so it was officially time to get the shorts out. I really love a Nautical theme so this top and shorts are perfect together, the coral top is lovely. The moccs are actually the first pair of moccs Joey as ever had and I'm really impressed with them, they go with the outfit well.

Outfit 2
After the weekend the weather turned a bit crap and raining which I was glad about just so that Joey could wear his brand new Hogwarts romper. Harry Potter is one of my fave film series and I'm gutted I didn't get him one of these rompers when he was a baby. I've been really into dribble bibs at the moment and found this one on ebay from the Cotton Bobbin Company, it's a quote from the HP films "I solemnly swear I'm up to no good", they do other HP themed bits aswell.

I'm so excited that we finally have some warmer weather, this is the time of year I love the most as their are some great summer shades to experiment with.

As always we're linking up with This Mama Life & Clearly Bex for Weekend Tot Style. Looking forward to seeing everyone's link ups. Let's hope the weather stays nice and warm for a while.

Our favourite Spaghetti Bolognese

I thought I would share with you our recepie for Spaghetti Bolognese. This is Joey's favourite and a meal i make nearly every week.
Ingredients (Serves 4)
275g Spaghetti
350g Mince Beef
1 400g can of Tinned Tomatoes
1 medium Onion (diced)
2 Garlic cloves (crushed)
Splash of Worcester Sauce
280ml Beef stock

1) Spray a pan with low calorie cooking spray and cook the onion and garlic for 2–3 minutes until softened. Stir in the mince and cook for 2–3 minutes until browned.

2) Add the chopped tomatoes, stock and Worcestershire sauce. Season lightly and bring to the boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for about 15 minutes until reduced and thickened. Check the seasoning.

3) Meanwhile, cook the spaghetti in a large pan of salted boiling water, as per the packet instructions, until just tender. Drain and divide between 4 serving plates. Top with the Bolognese sauce and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese if you fancy.

The hubby doesn't like mushrooms so it does look pretty bare so sometimes I'll add in carrots or peas but you could try peppers aswell. Anything that you can throw in really. Joey really loves Spag Bol, you guarantee that he'll clear his plate...and make a lot of mess.

We're linking up with our faves over at Eat Love Live London for #minismeals. Go check out her post for some kids meal inspiration.

Netflix faves in May

Over the past month Netflix has added some fab new movies and shows to its collection. Here are my faves this month...

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Season 2
Season 2 of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt premiered a month ago. I've watched a few of the first couple of eps and I'm so glad that Kimmy is back.

Endless Love
I am a sucker for a rom com, I'd never seen this before and it has a great cast. A remake of an 80's classic, The first love affair between two teens becomes obsessive as their parents try to separate them.

The Michael McIntyre Chat show
One of my favourite comedians, I didn't even know he had his own chat show a few years ago. My favourite part of his shows are "Send to all" it's so funny!!

I do love a good action film, especially when it has a fantastic cast. I saw RED when it first came out and I'll definitely be watching it again now that it's on Netflix.

I watched this for the first time a few months ago. When it was first released their was so much hype over it and I really wasn't interested in seeing it even if my fave Angelina Jolie was in it. I'm so glad I've watched it though, it's a fantastic film and Jolie is incredible. I've heard a rumour that Maleficent 2 will be happening aswell.

I was very late to the Twilight party, I only watched the first installment in like 2012 at a friends house and went out the next day to buy the others and even went to see Breaking Dawn in the cinema...on my own.

What are your favourites this month on Netflix?
