Mummy & Little Me Week 19: Why is my toddler so fussy

If you've followed this blog for a while then you'll know that Joey is extremely fussy with his food. This week on the Mummy & Little Me blog i give an update on how things are with his eating.

I haven't done an update on fussy eating for a while on both here and as part of my fussy eaters guide over on the Mummy & Little Me blog. Things haven't been great at mealtimes and it is so frustrating.

I know their are probably lots of parents with the same issue so please check out this week's post and feel free to share any advice or tips my way.

What Joey Wore #34

Welcome back to another What Joey Wore post. We've have some lovely new bits to show you this week.

Outfit 1
Top & Leggings: C & Co Apparel | Trainers: Nike
This outfit was sent to us from C & Co Apparel (Previously Caleb & Company) who we'd bought a few upcycled rompers from. She now has a new collection of tees and leggings and Joey was very lucky to be able to try them out. The "It's all good baby baby" tee is actually a quote from a Notorious BIG song that i really like . The tee goes so well with the batman leggings that are only £10 and are  amazing quality. Paired with his favourite Nike Roche trainers which I've just bought him a bigger size in.

Outfit 2
Coat: H&M | Top: Zara | Leggings: Zara | Shoes: Clarks

This outfit screams AUTUMN! The coat ia such a lovely colour and is so snug, H&M do some brilliant coats in the baby department. The top is another great autumnal colour and pattern, the geometric triangles make it look so cool. The leggings are actually from the Zara AW15 collection, Joey had a pair and grew out of them but i managed to get a pair on ebay. The triangle print in both the top and leggings go great together i think. Finishing the outfit off with his new Clarks shoes, the hubby has even said he wants the same pair.

Mummy & Little Me Week 18: Celebrating Halloween with a toddler

Next Monday is Halloween, for most people this means celebrating the event by dressing up, carving pumpkins and trick or treating. In this week's post for Mummy & Little Me i raise whether I should be celebrating Halloween with my 2 year old.

For me Halloween has always been a very American themed event. So many people in the UK go to extreme lengths to celebrate what is essentially a celebration of the dead. To me, Halloween is tacky and especially with the likes of these "Killer clown" sightings around the country it's something i can't be bothered to get involved with massively.

So head on over to the Mummy & Little Me website to checkout my latest post and let me know what your thoughts are about celebrating Halloween with a toddler.

What Joey Wore #33

Welcome to another week of What Joey Wore. This week we have 3 outfits to show you that feature some new purchases.

Outfit 1
Shirt: Zara | T-Shirt: H&M | Leggings: Turtledove London
A lovely saturday outfit, the panda leggings had come through the post that morning. I wanted the leggings to be the main focus so paired with a basic tee and a denim shirt and his favourite Nike trainers.

Outfit 2
Jumper & leggings: H&M | Shoes: Clarks
I'd seen this Halloween set on Instagram last week and really liked it, it's not a tacky outfit and he can even wear this after Halloween. The shoes are brand new from Clarks, it had been a while since Joey had last had his feet measured and I thought these were great for winter.

Outfit 3
Top: Rockin' Baby | Leggings: Zara | Trainers: Nike
A space insipred outfit up next. Joey was very kindly sent the rocket top from Rockin Baby to try out. Their AW16 collection is amazing!

Mummy & Little Me Week 17: Christmas Wishlist for Mummy's

I dare say it but Christmas is approaching.  Every year i always make a list of things i want or ideally would want but i nearly always end up ordering them myself. This week i have come up with a christmas wish list for Mummy's using products from the Mummy & Little Me website.

As a mother it's important to me that Joey is always the priority when it comes to Christmas presents, and gone are the days when hubby spends £300 on a watch for me. The Mummy & Little Me website has some really lovely gifts that i think are quite different to anything you'd find on the high street.

So if you need a little inspiration for this years Christmas gifts then take a look at my wishlist and explore the lovely gifts on offer on the Mummy & Little Me website.

What Joey Wore #32

Welcome to another What Joey Wore style post. I want to start off by saying congratulations to our host Sarah from This Mama Life on the birth of her baby boy.

Outfit 1
Jumper & leggings: Zara | Shoes: Converse
This outfit has been featured in a previous style post and wanted to share it again. On this particular morning it was a typical autumn day and this to me is a lovely autumn outfit.

Outfit 2
Jumper: H&M | Bottoms: Zara | Trainers: Nike
This is a new outfit that's been in Joey's wardrobe for a while. I ordered the bottoms from Zara when the AW range first came out, i love the colour and material of them. The jumper i bought a few weeks ago along with the matching bottoms. Again i love a khaki colour on Joey with a different contrasting colour.

Munchkin Miracle 360 cup Review

As a mum to a toddler I have built up quite a collection of bottles/beakers that Joey doesn't want to use, we've gone through several of the same make of trainer cup only for the straw or teat bits to break. For just over a month we have had the Munchkin Miracle 360 cup and at first i classed it as another write off as he wasn't interested in using it all. Recently however, he has been using it all the time so i thought i would share our thoughts on it.

When ever i see products that claim to be 100% spill/leak proof i tend to find when i buy them that that isn't the case AT ALL and I've ended up with a big old puddle on the floor or in the changing bag. The reason i wanted to get this cup for Joey was so that he could learn how to use a proper cup instead of a straw cup and also because of it being spill proof. I ordered the blue 296ml miracle 360 cup off Amazon about a month ago and surprise surprise Joey wasn't interested at all with it. He didn't understand how to get the juice out of it so i just kept it aside for another day. Then, about 2 weeks ago i thought i would try again with the cup and helped to guide the cup to his lips and he actually got the hang of it.
He's been using it all the time since and can even use it by holding onto it with his teeth instead of using his hands. Is it spill proof though? It is spill proof and even by holding it completely upside down with plenty of liquid in there are no leaks. However, if Joey has a tantrum and his cup is in sight and he launches it then you sometimes find it has leaked a tiny bit but only splashes. Cleaning the cup is so easy and one of the best things about the miracle 360 cup is that their isn't a build up of mould inside it like you get with other sippy cups.
I'm really happy that i got one for Joey  and I'm so happy that he actually likes using it now. I really was sceptical before i bought it but I've been proved wrong. The miracle 360 cup comes in 2 sizes and also available in other colours and designs which is great. The 296ml usually retails for about £4, i was ripped off and paid £8 on Amazon so be careful.

Do you have the Munchkin Miracle 360 cup? What do you think about it?

Kids Halloween & Christmas clothes picks

We are now in October, officially in Autumn and all of the shops are full of Halloween and Christmas stuff already! It was only summer 5 minutes ago! I've spotted a few bits for Joey for both Halloween and Christmas that I love.

Halloween
Blue monster leggings - Fred & Noah
Creep it real tee - Olivia Grae Kids

Christmas
Just another Christmas jumper - Gorgeous Little George

To tell you the truth I've never really been into Halloween but i really want to be able to create traditions for Joey that i never had growing up. Christmas is always a bit of an odd time year aswell but i can't help but buy Joey clothes for a particular celebration like Halloween, Christmas and Easter.

What do you think of my picks?

Mummy & Little Me Week 16: Development support for my toddler

In this week's post for Mummy & Little Me i explain about the support Joey is starting to receive for aspects of his development delay and behaviour.
It is well documented on this blog about Joey's delayed development, he's always been behind and I know he's only 2 years old but we thought it was important to seek advice sooner rather than later. We're feeling really positive with how quickly referrals have been made and hoping that Joey will have the support he needs.

So as always i will be documenting Joey's progress and our journey as a family.

What Joey Wore #31

Welcome back to another week of What Joey Wore. Hasn't the weather been quite mild for the start of October? It's been nice to make a start on some of Joey's new AW clothes.

Outfit 1
Unfortunately we don't have a flatlay for this outfit, i stupidly forgot to take a picture of the outfit before i sold the top. I really like this outfit though, the colour of the leggings are such an autumnal colour and go so well with the plain black top. I've become such a fan of Turtledove London recently but I'm surprised that these leggings are size 3-4 years and they are quite small, i would usually have bought Joey 2-3 years.

Outfit 2
Jumper: H&M | Leggings: Zara | Trainers: Nike
Even though we're well into Autumn now, the weather is warm enough to go out without a coat. I thought this combination of grey went so well and he looks really cool.

Home visit from the health visitor

On Thursday 29th September we had a visit from the local health visitor regarding worries we had about his behavior during Joey's 2 year review. This visit was just so the health visitor could see Joey at home and to discuss our issues in order to see what support could be available for Joey.

If you regularly read this blog then you may know that Joey has major tantrums. A few months back we had 2 days when Joey had a massive meltdown constantly throughout those 2 days. Nothing would calm him down. It was then suggested to us that maybe their was a reason for his behaviour, maybe ADD or some other form of disability. Me and the hubby seem to think it's something more than just the terrible two's so that's why we brought it up at his 2 year review.

This visit though was pretty informal and just chance for the health visitor to get an overall picture of Joey. As soon as the health visitor and the trainee walked in, Joey ran off into a different room hiding which is pretty common for him around strangers. Some of the issues discussed were:

Tantrums - it's pretty inevitable that Joey will have more than one tantrum during the day whether we're at home or out. The hv advised us to let Joey know where we would be going and what we would be doing. Telling him in advance what was coming up next would let him know what to expect.

Sleep - Joey's sleep has been amazing recently. We started to put him to bed without me staying in the room and he falls asleep no problem on his own. The hv was really pleased that we didn't have any issues getting him to sleep and he's in a good routine.

Speech & communication- one of the obvious development issues Joey has is his lack of communication with us. This may be thr reason for his tantrums as he becomes frustrated at not being able to tell us what he wants.

As this was just our initial meeting their will be more assessments to come before any support is in place. Tomorrow we have a home visit from Speech therapy so i will keep you posted.

Bedtime routine improvement

This time last year Joey's bedtime routine and ability to fall asleep were pretty bad. I'd got into a bad routine of letting him fall asleep in our bed and he didn't like it when it was time to put him in his own bed. Over the past few months we've been seeing a massive improvement.

I used to really dread bedtime as it was never straightforward with Joey. Over the summer months it has been more difficult getting him to bed while its still light outside but i still managed to get him to sleep by staying in the room until he drifted off. Over the past few weeks we have been taking Joey up to bed and he's been able to fall asleep by himself without kicking off. This has meant that me and the husband can actually spend the evenings together or i can actually watch the tv for once.

The other day, Joey didn't have a daytime nap so he had his tea, bath and then by 6.15pm he was asleep in bed and he then woke up at 7.30am the following day which is a new record for him. Its fantastic that things aren't difficult anymore getting him to bed but it hasn't been without it's issues.

The most important thing though is establish a good bedtime routine and stick to it, the more your toddler knows that its time for bed the easier it will get. Daytime naps are really important too, Joey always used to have 2 naps during the day around 11am and then 3pm but he has now dropped down to 1 nap a day which has to be before 3pm as to not interfere with bedtime. If he doesn't a nap he loses his shit at around 4pm and I have to rush tea in order for him to stay awake for his tea.

At the beginning of this year i really did wonder whether we would ever have a full nights sleep again as things were so bad. What works for one family won't work for everyone so if you are having trouble getting your child to sleep at night you just have to figure out whats best for you as a family. If you have a couple of bad nights just keep perservering with it. Even though we seem to have nailed bedtime now, it definitely didn't come easy.
Do you have problems getting your child to sleep at night?
